AFL-CIO Endorses Lexy Doherty for Congress in GA-10

Georgia AFL-CIO endorses Lexy Doherty, the Democratic candidate for Georgia's 10th congressional district. The Georgia AFL-CIO endorsement is a key milestone in Georgia's 10th district race, underscoring the vital role of labor support and political advocacy in getting out the vote statewide.

As a vocal advocate for labor rights and social justice, Doherty’s platform prioritizes crucial issues such as fair wages, improved working conditions, climate action, and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workforce.

“In these challenging times, it is imperative that we have leaders in Congress who are dedicated to uplifting and empowering Georgia’s workers,” said Hannah Perkins, political and campaign director of the Georgia AFL-CIO. “Doherty’s commitment to securing fair wages while building a thriving rural economy exemplifies our mission to improve workplaces across Georgia. We are confident that she will be a trusted voice for labor rights in Congress.”

The endorsement from the Georgia AFL-CIO underscores Doherty’s commitment to:

1. Fair Wages: Doherty believes that all workers deserve fair compensation for their labor. She will advocate for policies that ensure a living wage for all Georgians, including raising the minimum wage and implementing equal pay measures to address gender and racial disparities.

2. Improved Working Conditions: Doherty is committed to ensuring safe and healthy workplaces for all. She will fight for stronger workplace safety regulations, protections for whistleblowers and measures to prevent workplace discrimination and harassment.

3. Climate Action: Doherty recognizes the urgent need to address climate change and its impact on workers and communities. She will support initiatives to transition to a clean energy economy, create green jobs and invest in sustainable infrastructure to mitigate the effects of climate change.

4. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Doherty is dedicated to building a more inclusive and equitable society. She will work to dismantle systemic barriers to employment and advancement faced by marginalized communities, promote workplace diversity and ensure that all workers are treated with dignity and respect.

"I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of Georgia AFL-CIO,” said Doherty, an education consultant. “Together, we will fight tirelessly to advance the interests of working families, protect workers' rights, and build a brighter future for all Georgians."

Doherty has significantly outraised her primary opponent, with a four-to-one margin in contributions from small donors.

Georgia’s 10th congressional district primary is held on May 21, where the winner will face off against current Georgia Republican Rep. Mike Collins in November.

This is Doherty’s first run for the seat held by Collins—who replaced Republican Rep. Jody Hice after his failed bid for Georgia’s secretary of state. No data as to the likelihood of a winner is available as the federal courts recently approved new district lines drawn by the Republican-controlled Georgia General Assembly.
