The mother of Apalachee High School mass shooter Colt Gray has been indicted for assaulting her elderly mother and taping her to a chair in November 2023.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that it had obtained a copy of a police incident report that describes how Marcee Gray assaulted 74-year-old Deborah Polhamus in her mother’s Ben Hill County home because she refused to accompany her to Barrow County in order to confront her former husband.
"Marcee became upset and told Deborah that she was making her go with her because she was going to kill her ex," the AJC reported, quoting from
the police report. "Deborah stated she refused to go and Marcee threw her up against the wall, causing a cut on her left wrist. Marcee stated that since Deborah wasn’t going she was going to tie her to a chair and take her phone so she wouldn’t call anyone."
The woman remained taped to the chair for an entire day before being found by a family friend.
Marcee Gray was arrested in Barrow County three days later on charges of possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine and for damaging her former husband’s work vehicle. She was subsequently convicted and sentenced to five years, with the first 46 days to be served in confinement.
After serving her sentence in April, Gray was transported to Ben Hill County where she was arrested for the incident with her mother and later released on bail, the AJC reported.
A Ben Hill County grand jury on Monday indicted her on single counts of exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person, false imprisonment, criminal damage to property, and theft.
Her son, 14-year-old Colt Gray, is in custody for the Sept. 4 mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder where he used an AR-type rifle to shoot 13 people, killing two teachers and two students.
His father, Colin Gray, was charged with second-degree murder for giving the murder weapon to his son after Colt had previously threatened to commit a school shooting.
She needed to be taped to a chair her entire prison sentence.
