Arrest made in assault and robbery of Athens man

A Newton County man this week was arrested in connection with a brutal beating and robbery of an Athens man four months ago in the victim’s south Athens apartment.

The 33-year-old victim reportedly told Athens-Clarke County police that on the afternoon of May 29 that he invited into his people who he had met the day before at the pool at his complex, The Park at Athens Lakeside.

After entering the apartment, a male who the victim did not initially see reportedly grabbed him by the throat and took him to the floor where the suspects beat him. The victim told the Athens Banner-Herald that the beating lasted for about 90 seconds and he suffered a broken nose and jaw.

Thee suspects stole a fire-proof lock box containing $2,000, according to police.

Police subsequently identified one of the suspects as 21-year-old Bradley Dane Pettit of Covington.

He was arrested on warrants and booked into the Clarke County Jail Monday on charges of robbery by force and aggravated assault.
