Athens gangsters receive lengthy prison sentences for deadly Five Points shooting

By Joe Johnson

Three members of a local street gang have been sentenced to prison following their convictions in a murder case involving a drive-by shooting last year in the Five Points neighborhood of Athens.

The case of a fourth member of the Everybody Killa (EBK) gang is pending.

The three EBK members were sentenced on Monday in Clarke County Superior Court in accordance with plea agreements they made this week with the Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Prosecution has been handled by Attorney General Chris Carr’s Gang Prosecution Unit.

The sentenced gang members are Anthony “Nick” Brown, 20, X’Zydric “Sun Sun” Faust, 17, and 21-year-old Glendarius “Glen” Tate.

As part of the plea deal, each pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for murder being dismissed.

They in turn were each sentenced to 25 years in prison and 10 years on probation.

The fourth EBK member, 21-year-old Jaden “Jay Savage” Appling, was able to have his case severed from the others and has requested a jury trial. His attorneys were said to be negotiating for a plea bargain. A judge has scheduled a status conference hearing for October 17.

The fatal shooting happened the night of March 5, 2023, when 24-year-old Ja’Vanni McDavid, a member of the Red Tape Gang (RTG), was shot when the four EBK gang members opened fire from a vehicle outside of a home on Northview Drive in Five Points where other RTG members were attending a party.

McDavid was shot in the head and later died.

Gang members at the party returned fire, and in the end more than 40 total rounds were fired by both sides.

The crime scene is across the street from UGA’s Foley Field baseball stadium and the incident triggered a “timely warning” to alert members of the university community about a potential danger.
