Athens man sentenced for DUI crash that seriously injured teen

Charles Edward Gresham, 33, of Jefferson River Road has been sentenced for causing a DUI collision two years ago that seriously injured a teenage motorist.
He pleaded guilty to DUI, possession of cocaine, battery, and criminal damage to property and was sentenced to 10 years, with the first 240-300 days to be served in the Athens-Clarke County Diversion Center.
The crash occurred in September 2023 on Barnett Shoals Road near Hancock Lane, where Gresham’s truck crashed into a vehicle being driven by 18-year-old Audrey Lesniak of Hoschton, who suffered chest and internal injuries and a broken ankle.
Gresham reportedly had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, was unsteady on his feet, and was in possession of a small bag of cocaine.
Although his arm was broken and he suffered numerous cuts from broken glass, police said that Gresham indicated that he felt no pain and declined medical treatment.
At his sentencing hearing, Gresham was ordered by a judge to report to the diversion center this Thursday.
