Police are investigating two fatal traffic accidents that both occurred Tuesday on Athens roadways.
The first happened at approximately 3 p.m. at the intersection of Commerce and Sandy Creek roads.
The initial investigation indicates that aToyota Camry was traveling south on Commerce when it struck an oncoming Kia Rio.
The Toyota’s driver, 74-year-old Dorothy Evans of Commerce, Commerce, was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old Athens,l woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
This incident continues to be investigated and police asked for anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it to contact Officer Barnard at Lauren.Barnard@accgov.com or 762-400-7222.
The second deadly crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Macon Highway near it’s intersection with Garden Lane.
The initial investigation determined that a Toyota MR2 was traveling east on Macon Highway and struck a Jeep Gladiator as it was pulling out of a driveway.
The Toyota left the roadway and came to a rest in a vacant lot near Garden Lane. It’s driver, a 30-year-old man from Athens, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but his passenger, 56-year-old Edward Nadeau of Commerce, was taken to the hospital where he died.

The incidents were the 9th and 10th fatal traffic accidents this year in Athens-Clarke County.
