An Athens teen has been indicted for the murder of one person and the assault of another during a shooting at a northside apartment complex six months ago.
Daviae Massir Oliver, 18, is charged in the Feb. 28 indictment with malice and felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the shooting death of 20-year-old Ndya Hill and the wounding of 17-year-old Tyrickus Smith.
The charged arise from an incident at Rolling Ridge Apartments on Oct. 28 when, according to police, Oliver shot at the two victims because he “was upset with Hill over some statements that she said.”
At the time of the shooting Oliver was free on bond for armed robbery and aggravated assault charges in Gwinnett County, according to court records.
Oliver is being detained without bail being set, and he is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on April 10.
As a white man, I am constantly reminded that violent crime happens in all communities. Of course that is true. But I'd like to add a bit of a filter to that statement.... If the perp and the victim are family members or in a close relationship, there seems to be a fairly even demographic and racial breakdown of violent crime offenders, at least on a per capita basis. BUT, if the victim is random or not in a close relationship with the perpetrator, there is no need to guess as to what the profile is of the assailant. I know it. You know it. Al Sharpton knows it. Stacey Abrams knows it. And Joe Biden knows it…
