A Clarke County grand jury has indicted an Athens woman on cruelty charges for administering corporal punishment to her juvenile son.
Krystal Sade Faust, 36, is accused of whipping the boy with a telephone cord “as punishment for a bathroom accident,” and causing “bruising, scarring, and breaking the skin,” according to the indictment filed October 22 in Superior Court.
The indictment charges Faust with first-degree cruelty to children and battery under the Georgia Family Violence Act.
According to police and court records, the incident happened in January 2023 at the family’s home at Pinewoods Apartments on Bailey Street.
Faust was arrested and released on bail with conditions she could not have physical contact with her son and that she comply with a Department of Family and Children Services safety plan.
Additionally, Faust “shall not use physical discipline toward any of her children,” the judge’s bail order states.
She is scheduled to be arraigned on December 18.
