An eastside Athens bank reportedly was robbed late Thursday afternoon.
According to Athens-Clarke police Lt. Shaun Barnett, officers responded to a 4:46 p.m. call reporting the robbery at Wells Fargo on Gaines School Road, where a white male passed a note to a teller who gave him an undisclosed amount of money.
Officers arrived at the bank within four minutes of the call and a search of the area included a K-9 unit and officers operating a drone, but the suspect could not be located, according to Barnett, ACCPD’s public information officer.
The robber was only described as a white male who wore a mask typically used for protection from the Covid-19 virus, Barnett said.
Police were not releasing the note’s contents at this time, he said.
The investigation is ongoing and police asked for anyone with information to contact Detective Paul Johnson at 762-400-7060 or paul.johnson@accgov.com.
