Body cam footage shows Colt Gray and father being questioned by deputies year before Apalachee High School mass shooting

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has released body camera footage of a conversation last year that deputies had with Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray and his father, Colin.

The conversation was recorded 15 months prior to the school shooting in which 14-year-old Colt shot 13 people, killing four.

The deputies went to Colin Gray's home on May 21, 2023, after the FBI received an anonymous tip alleging that Colt had made a threat to shoot up an unspecified school over the gaming chat platform Discord. 

Authorities say no action was taken at the time because the threat could not be substantiated.
