Bullet just misses little girl’s head inside her eastside Athens home

By Joe Johnson

A 7-year-old girl was in her home Saturday night at the Athens Gardens apartment complex when she felt a bullet whiz past her ear.

The bullet had been fired while a group of males were fighting in the parking lot outside and it went through a front window, nearly striking the child’s head before embedding in the wall behind the couch on which the girl was sitting.

Two other children, ages 4-10, also were in the home at the time.

Another bullet punched through the wall of a neighboring apartment and was found on the floor by a resident.

Police indicated that they had identified potential suspects.

The incident happened seven months after 3-year-old Kyron Zarco was killed inside his home by a bullet fired during a driveby shooting by gang members at Hallmark Estates.

When fatally shot in the chest Kyron was watching a movie with his 9-year-old brother, who was hit in the leg by a bullet.
