Motorists injured when car crashes and burns in northeast Athens-Clarke County

From the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department:

A-Shift, Engine 26, Ladder 1, and Winterville Fire responded to a single-car accident with injuries on Old Elberton Rd between Lem Edwards and Moore’s Grove. While en route, the situation escalated to a vehicle fire. Our crew quickly assisted the patients involved and worked to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, the fire was brought under control, and we prevented it from spreading into the surrounding woods.

One individual was transported to the hospital by family with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident highlights a crucial safety reminder: When you see emergency vehicles, please pull to the right and stop. You never know what kind of urgent situation we are responding to. In this case, our firefighters had to manage both medical care and fire suppression while waiting for additional help to arrive.

A big thank you to all the first responders who played a role in this incident: ACCFD, ACCPD, Winterville Fire, and National EMS. Your teamwork and dedication are greatly appreciated.
