A University of Georgia student was arrested last week after he celebrated the election of Donald Trump as president by shooting a Biden-Harris sign at his Athens apartment complex.
Nicholas Bradley Lanning, 19, was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and possession of fake identification.
Lanning is listed as a right handed pitcher on Georgia State University’s fall 2024 baseball roster, and now that the the teen from Norcross lives in Athens, he apparently hopes to join the UGA Bulldogs next season.
“I would like to thank Georgia State for the past two years. I will be finishing my baseball and academic career at the University of Georgia,” the student posted on X.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Lanning was arrested following a complaint made at about 5:30 a.m. November 6 by a Weymanda Court man who said males at an apartment complex behind his residence were shooting guns and yelling, “We made it boys, we did it.”
Officers identified the scene of the incident by finding spent shotgun shells in in front of an apartment on South Hampton Pointe. Upon knocking on the front door they were greeted by Lanning, who admitted to shooting a shotgun.
“He said that he fired it off his porch…shooting a Biden-Harris 2020 sign,” according to a police report.
Lanning explained “he did it because he was happy about the 2024 election results.”
The student told officers that the gun was in his truck, and when it could not be located there, he said that he didn’t know where it was.
When asked about the odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, Lanning told an officer that he had drank 12 beers over a 12-hour period.
When arresting Lanning, police discovered he had fake ID in his wallet, and they additionally charge him with possession of fraudulent identification.
Lanning was released from jail later that day upon post bonds totaling $50.
