An Athens man and woman who were in a parked car at a westside park early Wednesday were arrested when they were found to have various drugs in their possession, Athens-Clarke County police,
One of the suspects was a convicted felon who was illegally in possession of a gun. according to police.
An officer was on patrol on Sunset Drive at about 3:30 a.m. when he spotted a car parked in Bishop Park which he thought to be suspicious, police said.
The couple in the car was found to be in possession of meth, marijuana and various controlled substances, according to police.
Alfonso Alonzo Ellison 26, of Salisbury Plain Drive and Courtney Drionna Lowe, 24, of Big Oak Circle were each charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, misdemeanor marijuana possession, and possession with intent to distribute Schedule III, IV and V controlled substances.
Ellison was additionally charged with use of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A police incident report did not indicate what the controlled substances were.
Both suspects were being held in lieu of bond as of late Thursday afternoon
