Athens Gun Club employee shoots self accidentally

A employee of the Athens Gun Club reportedly shot himself Saturday night when his pistol accidentally fired.

Julio Fierro told police that he was was helping to clean up before closing the business on Mill Center Boulevard when he decided to shoot a few leftover rounds of ammunition.

The 26-year-old employee related that as he drew the partially-cocked gun to aim at a target “it just went off” and fired a bullet that went completely through his left hand, according to police.

Fierro was taken by ambulance for treatment at the hospital.
