A 26-year-old Athens man was arrested Monday night after he was caught allegedly peeking into a house in west Athens, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Officers responded to the house in the 700 block of Mitchell Bridge Road at about 8:30 p.m. to investigate a woman’s report that she saw a black male looking through a window and when she went to the door to ask what he was doing, the male did not respond. A male occupant also confronted the intruder, asking if he needed help, but he just shook his head and walked away, according to police.
Responding officers made contact on Mitchell Bridge Road with Joseph Davares Dillard, who fit the suspect's description, police said.
When asked if he knew why police made contact with him, he reportedly replied, “Because of those people.”
“Dillard stated he was walking by could see the television from the road and wanted to see the television, the house, the people inside and the people walking by,” according to police. “Dillard stated they didn’t want him to look and asked him to leave.”
The Rosewood Place man was arrested and charged with being a peeping Tom.
A police report noted that earlier in the day officers barred Dillard from Rolling Ridge Apartments on an allegation he grabbed a female’s buttocks there.
Dillard, who was denied bond by a Magistrate Court judge, continued to be held at the Clarke County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
