Pregnant woman dies after crashing vehicle in Athens

A woman and her unborn child died Saturday following a single-vehicle crash in Athens.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Alana Barnes, 27, of Lavonia wrecked her vehicle while traveling on Danielsville Road between Hull and Nowhere roads.

Barnes, who was 15-weeks pregnant, was transported by EMS to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, police said.

The fetus did not survive, according to police.
