Independent candidate Yalamanchili will appear on ballot to challenge DA Gonzalez

Updated: Aug 10

Kalki Yalamanchili, Independent Candidate for District Attorney of the Western Judicial Circuit, received the official confirmation from the Secretary of State that his name will appear on the ballot in the November 5th General Election. Georgia law requires that independent candidates collect signatures from 5% of people eligible to vote when the seat was last voted on in 2020.

The Secretary of State’s Office let the campaign know that they had accepted 9,567 of the signatures from the nomination petition, nearly doubling the minimum requirement of 4,944.

“This letter from the Secretary of State serves as a collective acknowledgement by thousands of citizens in Clarke and Oconee Counties that we need a choice in the race for District Attorney this November. At the same time, it represents the hard work of hundreds of concerned citizens who were willing to sacrifice personal time and resources for the betterment of our community. While this is just the first hurdle to restoring justice in the Western Judicial District, I would be remiss if I didn’t pause to appreciate this massive accomplishment we achieved together. Thank you,” Kalki stated.

With this step officially completed, Kalki and his team will confidently focus on ensuring voters are well equipped with the knowledge they need to elect a District Attorney who has the experience to serve with excellence and integrity. They look forward to offering the Western Judicial District an option free from the noise of partisan politics this election.

Kalki is a proud first-generation American with six years of prosecution experience including five years as Assistant District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit. Following his time as an ADA, he entered private practice and is an adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Georgia School of Law. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. Kalki is the President of Rotary Club of Athens, a Board member and Past President of the Western Circuit Bar Association, and a Board member of Athens-Clarke County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (ACC-SANE, Inc.).

Kalki has been married to his wife, Caitlin, for over ten years. Together, they share two sons and a golden retriever and are active members of Athens Church.
