By Joe Johnson

An Athens man has been indicted for an armed robbery last year in which he forced his way into the home of a woman with whom he once lived and stole her purse.

Tyfil Edious Walton, 42, was charged with armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the indictment filed last Friday in Clarke County Superior Court.

An arrest warrant indicates that on July 11, 2023 Walton went to a residence on Northcrest Drive that was occupied by the victim, her grandmother and other relatives, and while brandishing a pistol struggled with the victim and forced his way inside and stole her purse.

Walton was arrested the same day as the incident and released from custody on bond two weeks later, with the condition that he have no contact with the victim.
