A man has been sentenced to prison in connection with an assault that occurred three years ago in which he repeatedly struck the victim with a machete.
As part of a negotiated agreement with prosecutors, 29-year-old Jeremy Scott Dixon on Aug. 19 pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a knife in the commission of a crime.
In accordance with the plea bargain, a judge sentenced Dixon to five years in prison and seven years on probation.
Court records reveal the following facts of the case:
On the afternoon of Aug. 12, 3021, Dixon went to the home of Christopher Parker at Northside Apartments on Old Hull Road to confront him about an ongoing dispute Parker was having with his girlfriend.
The woman was Dixon’s former girlfriend who had texted him about difficulties in her relationship with Parker.
Dixon had with him a machete that he kept in his truck, and during the confrontation he struck Parker multiple times with it, cutting the victim’s shoulder and forearm and head, “leaving skin hanging by a flap and causing bone to show.”
The head injury required 50 stitches.
