Mayor Girtz will make a recommendation to the Athens-Clarke County Commission for their approvals at the Regular Session on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 beginning at 6:00 PM in the Commission Chamber at City Hall, 301 College Avenue.

If approved, the two-year appointments would begin on July 1, 2023.

Gavin Hassemer’s appointment would follow 17 years of work in ACCGov, most recently as Assistant Director of Central Services, where he also served as Interim Director while the Director was away on temporary assignment. He has also served as a Senior Planner in the Planning Department. In each of his roles, Hassemer has been responsible for research, analysis, and coordination among both public and private sector partners. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from American Public University, along with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Wisconsin.

“I know that Gavin will approach the role of Auditor with the critical eye and attention to detail that has characterized all of his work here,” says Girtz.

Marcy Jolles most recently served as Staff Attorney (updated title) to Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens. Her legal career has also included work as a private sector Associate at Cowsert Heath, LLP and Silver and Archibald, LLP, as well as service as Senior Assistant Solicitor in Athens-Clarke County, Senior Staff Attorney in the State Court of Athens-Clarke County, and Assistant Public Defender in the Western Circuit Public Defender Office. Jolles holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, also from UGA.

“Marcy’s deep knowledge of law and her breadth of practice in the courtroom are the ideal combination for service as our Municipal Court Judge,” says Girtz.

Wake up people. Use your brain. It stands to reason that if Mayor Girtz picked this person then it can’t be good when it comes to any connection with law & order in Athens!

Have you forgotten that our Mayor AS WELL AS the Commissioners are NOT fans of our police!
