New chief judge for the U.S. Middle District of Georgia

Today United States District Judge Leslie Abrams Gardner assumed her new role as chief judge for the U.S.Middle District of Georgia .

Gardner, who had been on the federal bench in Albany, succeeds Judge Marc T. Treadwell of Macon, who had served as chief judge since July 2020.

Chief judges oversee the administrative operations of the court in their district, and are regarded as the “first among equals” among the judges of the court.

Gardner was appointed to the federal lbench by Barack Obama in 2014

Prior to that, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Atlanta.

She received her law degree from Yale Law School. You


Chief Judge Gardner has served on the Judicial Conference Bankruptcy Committee and she is a current member of the Judicial Conference Budget Committee.

As Chief Judge, Judge Gardner will represent the Middle District of Georgia on the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Council.
