One-day holiday ornament metal enameling workshop at the Lyndon House Arts Center

Get into the holiday spirit with our immersive one-day metal enameling workshop. Perfect for all skill levels, this hands-on experience will guide you through the process of transforming metal into stunning, colorful ornaments. In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of metal enameling, including techniques for applying enamel to metal surfaces, layering colors, and achieving unique textures. Under the guidance of our experienced instructor, you’ll create your own personalized holiday ornaments that make perfect gifts or cherished keepsakes. All materials will be provided, so just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! Join us for a full day of artistry, fun, and festive cheer as you craft beautiful pieces to adorn your holiday season.



Trash to Treasure: Alternative Setting for Intermediate Jewelers with Shaunia Grant


Tuesdays, January 7 - February 11 (5:30 - 7:30pm)

Learn how to give found objects the reverence they deserve. In this course you will create stone settings for everything from keepsakes to trash, using traditional and experimental setting techniques. Basic metals and jewelry skills highly suggested. Skills required: basic sawing and finishing skills, basic soldering. Materials will be provided, but there will be some objects that students will be required to source themselves. 



Materials and Techniques in Painting with Water Mixable Oils (Beginning & Intermediate) with Lauren Adams


Tuesdays, January 7 - February 11 (5:30 - 7:30pm)


Do you love the working time of oils but hate the toxicity and fumes of solvent thinners? Water-mixable oils might be the perfect balance for you. These are real oil paints that can be mixed with water, mediums, or natural oils. If you work in a space without good ventilation or are sensitive to solvent thinners and turpentine, water mixable oils can give you a fume-free oil painting experience! This course covers materials, beginner basics, and oil painting methods.  This class is for students with no prior painting experience up to the intermediate student. Basic supplies are provided. Students must supply their own canvas or panel.



Intro to Intaglio Printmaking with Noah Lagle


Tuesdays, January 7 - February 25 (5:30 - 7:30pm)


Intaglio printing (i.e. etching, engraving, drypoint, collagraph, etc.) offers tons of potential for intricate line work as well as expressive marks. In this class you'll learn how to prepare your plates, incise your image into the smooth surface, master the traditional inking process, and print your designs using a press. You'll be able to experiment with a variety of styles and tonal effects as you begin your deep dive into the techniques and tools of this historic art form. This is a studio course focused on the theory and practice of printmaking as an expressive medium.  This class is for students with no prior printmaking experience up to the intermediate student, all are welcome.  Basic supplies are provided.  Some students may want to buy special paper for use in class. 



Drawing & Watercolor Techniques with Toni Carlucci


Thursdays, January 9 - February 13 (3:00 - 5:00pm)


Improve your drawing skills and learn to express your creativity through the combination of water and pigments. Through this class, you will learn the basic materials and techniques essential for working from observation, capturing gesture, and watercolor painting. Experiment with various brush strokes and mixing to achieve a wide variety of effects. No previous experience necessary. Basic supplies are provided.



Intro to Stained Glass with Rae Toussaint


Thursdays, January 9 - February 13 (5:30 - 7:30pm)


Learn how to create a stunning stained glass panel using historical glass techniques! Through this six-week course, we will explore the creation of a stained glass panel from pattern to final piece. Participants will learn glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, framing, and finishing. No previous experience required. All materials included.



Ceramic Hand Building (Beginning & Intermediate) with Amanda Jane Crouse


Thursdays, January 9 - February 13 (5:30 - 7:30pm)


Discover the joy of shaping clay with your hands and creating beautiful, decorative/functional pieces that reflect your unique style. Learn essential techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Explore various methods to decorate your pieces, including carving, stamping, and texturing and learn the basics of glazing. Enjoy a supportive, hands-on environment where you can experiment and refine your skills. No prior experience needed. Basic materials are included.

The Arts Education Department at Lyndon House Arts Center is dedicated to providing high-quality arts education curriculum and enrichment to youth, adults, and teens in the Athens area. We host adult evening classes, workshops, after-school youth classes, 3Teen Clubs, and a comprehensive summer arts camp experience.  The Arts Center includes 7 professional-level art studios including Painting/Drawing, Printmaking, Fibers, Photography, Ceramics, Wood/Sculpture, and Jewelry/Metals. There is a separate children's wing with wonderful facilities, grassy lawns, and a covered outdoor courtyard used as an open-air studio space.




Refunds for ACC Leisure Services programs are granted according to the following policy:


All refund requests must be received no later than seven (7) business days prior to the first day of the program or class. After the seven day deadline, refunds will not be granted without a written medical excuse from a licensed physician. Refunds will be assessed an administrative fee of 25% of the amount paid. This fee applies to all programs with a fee of $5.00 or more. Fees collected of less than $5.00 will not be refunded (unless Leisure Services cancels the program/class). If ACC Leisure Services Department is responsible for the cancellation of a program or class, a full refund will be issued. Refunds will be issued only to the individual who registered the participant. In unusual situations (patron is relocating, has an illness or becomes physically unable to continue the program, etc.) where a refund is requested for services that have been paid in advance, the balance of the remaining value may be refunded after receipt of a written request. Behavior related dismissals may not be eligible for refund.
