By Joe Johnson

An arrest has been made in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred over the weekend in eastside Athens.

Santonieyo Cooper, 19. of Dowdy Road was arrested Sunday afternoon by the Georgia State Patrol during a manhunt by several law enforcement agencies in Madison County.

The shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Nellie B Avenue.

The incident began as a dispute between two males that escalated to threats and then violence.

One of the males was a 19-year-old who targeted the other male’s home with gunfire from a vehicle.

No one was injured, according to police.

Local police later notified the Madison County Sheriff’s Office that the suspect was possibly in Comer.

During a search of the area, the GSP stopped the suspect’s car on Highway 172 and arrested him for traffic violations.

Authorities identified Cooper as the suspect.
