Police investigating woman’s murder in east Athens

A woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in an eastside apartment Thursday afternoon, and an Athens man was subsequently charged with her murder.

The victim’s name is being withheld by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department pending family notification.

The county coroner said the victim was a 48-year-old black female.

The suspect is identified by police as 27-year-old Kendall Elon Boone of Royale Road.

He is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to police, officers responded at about 4:20 p.m. to investigate a report of a possibly deceased person in the 100 block of Royale Road.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female The initial investigation determined the victim had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

“After investigating, officers were able to locate and arrest a suspect, Kendall Boone, in the 300 block of Jennings Mill Parkway,” ACCPD said in a news release.

Police have not disclosed whether a motive for the crime has been determined.

The coroner wasn’t sure if Boone and the victim had lived together at the Royale Road apartment, but he confirmed that they were in a relationship.
