Rob Johnson named interim Barrow County schools superintendent

By Joe Johnson

The Barrow County School System Board of Education has named Rob Johnson as the Interim Superintendent. This decision was reached in a board meeting on December 12, 2023. Johnson's term will start on January 1, 2024, and will continue until a permanent superintendent is selected.

Rob Johnson is not new to the Barrow County School System. He has served as an Assistant Superintendent and Principal of Winder-Barrow High School and Russell Middle School from 1999 to 2012.

After his time at BCSS, Johnson became the Superintendent of Laurens County Schools. He served in this role from 2012 to 2016, when he retired. Since his retirement, he has been working as a School Climate Specialist at the Northeast Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA).

Johnson has 40 years of experience in education, which will be valuable in his new role as Interim Superintendent. The BCSS community is expected to welcome him back to the district.
