A man who was lying in the middle of an Oglethorpe County roadway last week was run over and killed by a tractor-trailer truck hauling chickens.
Authorities have yet to release his identity, but people living in the are knew him as “Puddy Cat” and thought him to be in his late 20s.
They say that he was homeless, with parents in Madison and Crawfordville.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred soon after 3 a.m. Friday near mile marker 4 on Crawfordville Road.
“It is unknown why the individual was laying in the road at that time of the morning,” said a post on the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
“We had been out with the individual for unusual behavior and was seen around the community wearing only a blanket.”
The incident was turned over for investigation to the Georgia State Patrol.
