Rescued from the brink of death, Scout the Doodle dog waits for his forever home

By Joe Johnson

Three months ago, a mix-breed doodle dog had been left to die when someone abandoned it at a dumpster.

Rescued and given a name by the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia, “Scout” was taken in critical condition to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where he received the best possible treatment from a team of doctors and technicians who restored him back to health.

The 5-year-old doodle was discharged after about a month and subsequently taken in as a foster by a woman experienced in caring for animals with special needs. At the time, Scout was still unable to stand on his own and needed a wheelchair as recuperated from his ordeal.

Today Scout has healed remarkably well physically and emotionally, and is back to excellent health, according to Chandler Riddett of the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia.

“He is a happy, energetic, intelligent boy who is ready for an adoptive home where he has access to a fenced yard to run and stretch his legs,” Riddett said, “We believe he would do best as the only pet in the home.”
