An Athens man was arrested last week after his car was stopped for illegally passing a school bus and drugs allegedly packaged for distribution were found in the vehicle.
The infraction occurred the afternoon of Aug. 27 on Commerce Road and was observed by an officer who was conducting traffic enforcement.
According to a police report, 49-year-old Traevis Kenyae Porter, drove his car past a bus that had been stopped with its lights flashing and a stop sign displayed.
The officer conducted a traffic stop, and searched the car upon smelling a strong odor of marijuana. He found small bags of marijuana and cocaine along with a scale, police said, at which time Porter was arrested for possession with intent to distribute the drugs.
Porter on Tuesday remained in pretrial detention after having been denied bail by a Magistrate Court judge.
