Science fact of the day: Miniature donkeys were not bred down

Unlike some miniature dog breeds (such as toy poodles), miniature donkeys were not 'bred down' from standard donkeys — their small stature is naturally-occurring.

Miniature donkeys are no more than 36 inches tall and most weigh between 200 and 450 pounds.

Miniature donkeys are native to Sicily and Sardinia; they were first introduced to the U.S. in 1929.
