Science fact of the day: Succulents have a low Surface-to-volume ratio

Succulents have fleshly leaves or stems that store water. These structures each have a rounded shape in order to maintain a low surface-to-volume ratio.

This is what allows the succulents to minimize water loss and stay relatively cool in hot, harsh climates.
