After being shot three times in an Athens public housing complex a 19-year-old teen visiting from Barrow County sought help from two occupied apartments but no one came to his aid.

According to a police report, 19-year-old Jaivan Woods was at Parkview Homes Tuesday night when someone fired at least nine shots from a 9mm pistol, striking him in the arm, leg, and abdomen.

A responding officer who found the Winder teen lying on a sidewalk, observed a blood trail to a pair of apartments where Woods had sought help,

“No one occupying either apartment opened the door for him,” the officer wrote in his report.

Someone later did come out to provide a towel for use in stanching the bleeding, and the officer continued to care for the victim until EMS arrived to transport him to the hospital.

Woods indicated that he didn’t know who shot him, but the report also noted that he wasn’t cooperative with police.

He remained hospitalized in stable condition on Thursday.

An investigation was ongoing and police asked for anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Hovie Lister at 762-400-7333 or Hovie.Lister@accgov.com.
