The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement about the arrest of a student at Malcom Bridge Middle School:
On September 13th, around 11AM, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Oconee County School administrators regarding a MBMS student making potential threats of school violence.
The student was immediately isolated and interviewed, and it was determined that there were no credible threats and no danger to students or staff. The situation was quickly de-escalated, and the juvenile was detained and handed over to the Department of Juvenile Justice without incident. There is no active threat to the school.
We encourage parents to take some time to discuss the seriousness of this matter with your children. Let them know that their words carry weight, and that keeping our schools safe is something we all play a role in. With your help, we can continue to make our schools places where everyone can thrive, knowing they are supported and protected.
Again, we will not tolerate any misconduct and will continue to thoroughly investigate all threats of school violence.
