Teen shot while driving car in Athens

By Joe Johnson

An Athens teenager was recently shot as he drove his car in a north county trailer park.

The 17-year-old resident of Freeman Drive told police that early in the evening of October 11, he was driving through Country Corners off of U.S. Highway 29 North when he heard two loud “pops” then realized he had been shot in the hand and then he drove off.

Upon arriving home, the victim called his father, who instructed him to go to the hospital, according to police. He later told an investigator that he didn’t know who shot him.

Police observed two bullet holes in the driver’s side door of the car that the teen had been driving, and they recovered a spent 9mm shell casing in the middle of the road where the incident reportedly happened.

Blood was on the steering wheel of the car as well as the driver’s seat, police noted.

I'm gotten to hate this country and its whacked out twisted violent people! It's embarrassing to say I'm American because it's synonymous with gun violence!

How did we ever get here?

It wasn't like this before the 1980's!

Yes. Yes it was. We just didn’t have news on repeat 24 hours a day. We also had a ban on semiautomatic weapons until Bill Clinton.
