Four people were killed and nine others were injured in the mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder on Wednesday.
Here’s a little bit of what is known about the teachers and students who lost their lives.
Christina Irimie was a 53-year-old native of Apoldu de Jos, a village in the Transylvanian mountains of Romania. She immigrated to this country after the fall of communism in the Eastern Bloc countries of Europe, coming in 1996 as a member of a dance troupe performing on the sidelines of the Atlanta Olympics.
Cristina met her husband Dorin, a fellow Romanian, in the United States. She was well known to volunteer at her Orthodox church and for Romanian festivals.
Richard Aspinwall taught math at Apalachee High and was a coach for the football team.
He’s been described as a devoted father to his two young daughters, and during football game halftimes Richard would give them kisses.
“Everything he did was for his girls,” a friend said. “He was a phenomenal girl dad.”
Mason Schermerhorn, 14, was described by family friends as a lighthearted teenager who liked spending time with relatives, reading, telling jokes and playing video games. He had recently started at Apalachee High.
Mason was said to have been looking forward to an upcoming vacation to one of his favorite places —Walt Disney World.
Lisette Angulo described her brother as “a very good kid,” who was “very sweet and so caring.”
“He was so loved by many,” she said on her 14-year-old sibling’s GoFundMe page. “His loss was so sudden and unexpected. We are truly heartbroken. He really didn’t deserve this.”
