A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting last year of a known gang member as he sat in a car outside of his home in west Athens.

Nigel Zachariah Turner, 25, was killed at the scene on Huntington Court, and Courtney Beckwith, who was in the car with him, was wounded.

Jutaraz Dashon Morton, 24, of Winder, and Timia Virginia Cobbs, 25, of Laurie Drive, were both charged with malice murder, felony murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Turner was a convicted member of the Red Tape Gang, and he initially appeared to have been a casualty in a war between RTG and another local street gang.

However, a police spokesperson said that detectives did not want to reveal the motive for the double shooting that occurred on April 17.
