On behalf of the Superior Court of the Western Judicial Circuit, Chief Judge Lisa Lott announces the appointment of Amanda Trimble as full-time Judge of Juvenile Court and Latasha Barnes Prempeh as part-time Judge of Juvenile Court.
Judge Trimble began her second term as full-time judge October 1, 2024, and Judge Prempeh will begin her first term as part-time Judge November 1, 2024. The oath of office ceremony for Judge Prempeh will take place on November 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Courtroom One of the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse at 325 East Washington Street.
“We are proud to have Amanda Trimble and Latasha Prempeh serve as our Juvenile Court judges and are confident that their breadth of knowledge and work experience will serve Athens-Clarke County and Oconee County well,” says Superior Court Chief Judge Lisa Lott. “My fellow judges and I believe Judges Trimble and Prempeh will continue to effectively represent the Western Judicial Circuit and support the many programs and services that Juvenile Court offers to assist children and families, including our Family Treatment Court and other programs. Their years of government service demonstrate a strong commitment to the well-being of children and families in our community.”
Judge Trimble has served on the bench since she was appointed as part-time judge on October 1, 2016. She was appointed as full-time judge on October 1, 2020. Prior to being appointed, Judge Trimble served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit for 11 years and served as a federal judicial law clerk in the Northern District. She received her undergraduate and law degrees from Mercer University.
Judge Prempeh has served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Western Judicial Circuit since 2013, most recently as the lead attorney in Juvenile Court. She received her undergraduate degree from Macon State College and her law degree from the University of Georgia.
The Juvenile Court of the Western Judicial Circuit serves Athens-Clarke County and Oconee County. Juvenile Court judges preside over cases involving most children under the age of 17 who are charged with violating any law or are deemed runaways, ungovernable, or beyond parental control. The court also hears all cases involving allegations of deprivation of children under the age of 18 found within its jurisdictions.
