An Athens grand jury this week indicted a convicted felon who shot a man several times two years ago.
Antwon Maurice Dixon, 38, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Clarke County Superior Court.
The firearms charge stems from Dixon having been convicted for an Athens armed robbery in 2010, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison and 10 years on probation.
The indictment alleges that in July 2022 Dixon used a .380-caliber pistol to shoot Michael Sims three times in the lower abdomen during an incident on Lombardy Circle.
When arrested for the crime in January 2023, Dixon was in custody for an unrelated matter in DeKalb County.
He was released from jail in Athens upon posting a $10,000 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment December18.
