The University of Georgia indicated that its officials were trying to learn if anyone affiliated with the school is among the victims in the attack in New Orleans on Wednesday morning.
Scores of Bulldogs fans are in the city for the Sugar Bowl.
Police in New Orleans say a man intentionally drove a truck through the crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 10 and injuring at least 35.
The attack is being investigated by the FBI as an act of terrorism.
“We are horrified and saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day in New Orleans. University personnel are working to determine if any UGA students, faculty, staff, alumni or fans were among the victims. We offer our deepest condolences to all the victims and their families, and we stand in solidarity with the New Orleans community,” a spokesperson said.
The University of Georgia Red Coat Marching Band says all of their members are safe and accounted for.
Louisiana officials have said that most of the victims were local residents.
