UGA student accused of violently raping freshman in campus dorm room

By Joe Johnson

A University of Georgia student was recently arrested on charges that he violently raped a UGA freshman in a campus dormitory.

Theodore Bennett Angell, 18, of Smyrna, is charged with rape, sexual battery, and aggravated assault, according to arrest warrants obtained by the UGA Police Department.

He allegedly choked, slapped and bit the victim during the assault that reportedly occurred September 11 at Black-Diallo-Miller Hall on Baxter Street.

The warrants indicate that the victim had red marks on her neck from allegedly being choked, red marks on her buttocks from being slapped repeatedly, and a bite mark on her arm. She was unable to breathe while being choked, the warrants allege.

Angell was arrested when he surrendered to authorities on November 5.

He is being detained at the Clarke County Jail pending a bond hearing that is scheduled for November 20.
