United Campus Workers of Georgia rally against attacks on higher education, research and workers

Writer: Classic City NewsClassic City News

The following has been released by the UGA chapter of the United Campus Workers of Georgia:

On Wednesday, March 19 from 12–1 PM, members and supporters of the UGA chapter of United Campus Workers of Georgia (UCWGA) will gather at the UGA Arch to address the current funding crisis in academia. Speakers will include staff, grad workers, faculty, and community members. Coming after years of chronic underfunding for education at the state level, the Trump administration’s attacks on higher education and workers have had devastating

impacts in our community and across the country.

The University of Georgia is the largest employer in Athens-Clarke County. Despite this, Athens’

representative Mike Collins intends to vote in favor of completely terminating the US Department of Education. “This asinine intention betrays his constituents to the oligarchs in Washington. We’re gathering to tell Mike Collins, Donald Trump, Elon Musk and all the other antagonists to workers and education that we will not meekly accept your attacks,” says Tom Sheehan, a UGA worker and United Campus Workers member.

We invite those interested in supporting the cause to join us on Wednesday and become a member!

EVENT DETAILS

Join us on Wednesday, March 19th from 12–1pm at the UGA Arch in downtown Athens!

Underfunded? No.

Go out in the real world and see how much you are worth.
