A teenager from Watkinsville was arrested last week for allegedly driving recklessly and while intoxicated in Athens.

In the early morning hours of February 21 a police officer was monitoring traffic from a driveway on West Lake Drive when a 2020 Mercedes-Benz 400 Series sedan sped past and he attempted to catch up but was unable to. The speedometer of the patrol car read 80 mph, and the officer estimated the Mercedes was traveling “well over 100 mph.”

The officer caught up with the car on Macon Highway and it stopped just prior to the Oconee County line.

The driver, 19-year-old Sarvesh Prabhu, had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, and the officer saw containers of alcohol inside the car.

Prabhu was transported to the downtown police station, where he was administered a breath test that indicated his blood-alcohol concentration was .11 percent.

He was arrested on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and possession of open containers of alcohol in a vehicle, and was released several hours later upon posting bonds totaling $1,850.
