Nolan Johnson, 21, of Winder was recently arrested on a DUI charge for driving while under the intoxicating effects of Rice Krispie edibles.
He admittedly had consumed the THC-infused marshmallow rice squares, and he came to the attention of police when his mother called them out of concern for his welfare.
The woman contacted police at about 11:30 p.m. March 27 to report that Johnson had consumed cannabis edibles and stopped responding to her while at Walmart Neighborhood Market on Atlanta Highway.
An officer reportedly found him in the store’s parking lot, slumped down in his car and drooling on himself.
“I knocked on the window of the vehicle multiple times to no avail and then opened the door when I found that it was urgent to check if Johnson was alive and breathing,” the officer wrote in a report, at which time he awoke in a startled and confused state.

Johnson explained to the officer that he had consumed three 150mg Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol edible Rice Krispie Treats, and that “he waited in the parking lot for about 20 minutes until the intoxicating effects took place and then decided to leave the parking lot, driving around for at least an hour and never leaving Athens.”
According to the officer, “Johnson had a severely impaired sense of time” and that he arrived at Walmart at around 4 p.m. and remained there until the officer found him.
Johnson agreed to take roadside sobriety tests but he “was so incredibly intoxicated that he was unable to complete any of them,” the officer reported.
After being transported to the hospital for a voluntary blood draw to be used for toxicology testing, he was taken to the county jail and booked in on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
