A grand jury this week indicted an Athens woman on cruelty charges for allegedly punching her juvenile daughter.
Patricia Marie Jewell, 31, was charged with two counts each of first-degree cruelty to children and family violence simple battery, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Superior Court.
The indictment stems from Jewell’s arrest on December 10 for allegedly punching the girl in the stomach and repeatedly in the head.
Jewell has since remained in pretrial detention because Judge H. Patrick Haggard denied her bail on his belief that she posed a risk of reoffending.
An arraignment on the indictment is scheduled for February 28.
