A Madison County woman was recently arrested after she caused a disturbance at an Athens residence while searching for her husband.
Amanda Nichole Roberts, 39, of Danielsville, reportedly wielded a knife when threatening her husband’s family at their the home on Cherokee Ridge.
The incident happened late the afternoon of November 4. A report from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department describes what happened:
Roberts drove into the driveway of the Cherokee Ridge home and demanded to know where her husband was. She was waiving a knife when confronting her brother-in-law, who’d been working in the garage.
The man told Roberts that her husband was not there and she ignored him when he told her that she needed to leave.
The man’s daughter then showed up with her boyfriend in his truck, at which time Roberts approached the vehicle with the knife and tried opening the driver’s door.
The boyfriend then sped away, dragging Roberts for a short distance as she held onto the truck. The 18-year-old later told police that he had feared for his life.
Roberts then got into her vehicle and drove away. She was later found by police in a parking lot off Huntington Road near the Georgia Square mall. She denied having threatened anyone with a knife.
“Why the fuck would I have a knife? I got a gun,” Roberts said. “If I wanted to do something, I’d shoot some fucking body.”
It also was learned that the woman had made a series of phone calls and texts to her husband’s family, threatening to get “the crew” on them.
After being transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained when dragged by the truck, Roberts was taken to jail and booked on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and acts, and harassing communications.
Magistrate Court Judge Donnerell Green denied her bail, due to Roberts having a previous aggravated assault conviction, and he referred the matter to Superior Court.
