A woman was walking the Firefly Trail on the afternoon of Feb. 23 when she came across a discarded gun.
The semiautomatic pistol was off to the side of the trail the in the woods near Inglewood Avenue.
There was a partially ejected casing stuck in the slide, and a rubber band was wrapped around the grip, which an officer who examined the weapon thought was odd.
The weapon was equipped with an attached flashlight and laser sights.
The officer believed the gun to have been fired and then ditched.
He ran the serial number and it came back as having no record.
