An Oglethorpe County woman was injured Monday morning when she accidently shot herself while in the parking lot of Kroger on U.S. Highway 29 North, according to an Athens Clarke County police report.
The 53-year-old resident of Lexington called 911 at 8:16 a.m. to report the accident, and when responding police officers arrived, she explained to them that she was in her car, reaching for sunglasses in a purse on her lap when a revolver that was also in the clutch went off and shot her in the stomach., according to the report.
ACC firefighters tended to the woman’ s injury before she was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
The police report noted that the officers checked parking lot surveillance video footage to confirm the woman’s version of events.
Thank God for the cameras cause the ASSUMPTIONS ARE ALWAYS COMING OUT LIKE DIARRHEA 🤢
considering the relative resistant pull of a revolver’s trigger, it’s hard for me to understand how the gun fired from her just grabbing sunglasses from the purse.
Do I need to bring my classes back to Athens?
And this proves my point. I’m all for the second amendment but there HAS to be SOME type of safety training for anybody buying a handgun. This is what you get when you get untrained people that purchase a handgun with absolutely no concept of safety or how it works or when and when NOT to shoot and not knowing what is behind your target if you do decide to shoot, and that you’re responsible for every bullet that comes out of your hand gun. That the bullets you fire can go through the wall behind the target that you’re aiming at and plow into somebody’s head in another room or apartment
They just buy a firearm as if it…
FFS...You can't just put a firearm in a bag or pocket without a holster that completely covers the trigger. Even if it has a safety you cannot do this! Trigger can get snagged on things, things can get inside the trigger guard and when the gun shifts it can apply leverage on the trigger.
